Amazing Fungi

Woodstock Land Conservancy is sponsoring a presentation the “Ecological Functions of Fungi” on Thursday, May 19th 7- 9 PM at Mountain View Studio, 20 Mountainveiw Ave. in Woodstock. NY.   This event is FREE and open to the public.

Did you know that fungi is one of the major kingdoms of life on a par with the plant and animal kingdoms, that almost all green growing plants need a fungal partner in order to survive and that the very soil in which our forests grow has, in large measure,  been created by fungi? Learn about all this in a fascinating,  interactive, illustrated presentation by Professor Bill Bakaitis of SUNY Dutchess. Ecological concepts will also be taught and the primary role of fungi as biological decomposer and regulator of CO2 within the Ecosystem. Bakaitis who founded the Mid-Hudson Mycological Association has  a been a popular presenter at the Institute for Ecosystem Studies, at The Culinary Institute of America, and at Hudsonia.  Bill Bakaitis will also lead a field trip at the Thorn Preserve BioBlitz in June.
